With a lot of promise: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
The fast, powerful, and beautiful Galaxy S7 phone is definitely 2016's all-around phone to beat. Almost everything about the 5.5-inch S7 Edge excels from the inside out, and Samsung has refined the extra navigation software that dresses up the screen's physical curves. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is a big upgrade over last year's S6 Edge, with nearly every element altered and upgraded in some way, showing the brand is still working out how to best position the jewel in its smartphone crown. Given the S6 Edge swept up nearly every best smartphone award in 2015, will the S7 Edge really be able to match up? Technology     GSM / HSPA / LTE

Social networks love emoji. And those better-than-real-words icons love social networks right back. Emojli is possibly the next step in that blossoming relationship: a social network with "no words, no spam, just emoji." It hasn't launched yet, but the iOS-bound network already polices a rigorous picture-only username system. According to its Twitter feed, registrations passed 10,000 earlier today, although it stresses that there are over 250,000 two-icon combinations out there -- let alone even longer usernames. Pointless time-waster, a nonsensical

It looks like Twitter''s leaked 'Buy Now' button is more than just a proposal, after all. Recode has spotted the button (since yanked) lurking in tweets seen from the mobile app, enticing people into making impulse purchases when browsing their social feeds. While the shopping link was frequently broken, one tipster reports getting a checkout page in-app; apparently, it wouldn't take long to buy whatever caught your attention. Neither Twitter nor its project collaborator, Fancy.com, are commenting on the inadvertent leak or their future plans. However, the appearance confirms that 'Buy Now' has at least made it far enough to become yet another Twitter experiment. The real question is w

Apple

At last, Apple has released iOS 7.1, which includes a number of improvements and bug fixes including the elimination of one nasty bug that caused users' home screens to crash. The new build of Apple's mobile OS includes CarPlay, introduced at the Geneva Motor Show last week. With this feature, and an Apple iPhone 5 or higher, the user can control certain functions on a touchscreen connected to a new car's dashboard. Functionality is limited to mapping and audio at the moment, and the UI is a rather simple version of iOS. Other changes include a new way to let Siri know precisely when you're done talking to her. In the past, a pause of a few seconds would indicate to the virtual assistant th

Apple's upcoming and anticipated iOS 7.1 update will be arriving in March, according to 9to5Mac. Apple released the fifth beta to developers earlier this week and hopefully the GM will be out soon.iOS 7.1 is expected to bring several changes across the board to the OS. Apple has also improved performance compared to the current 7.0.4. On the new iPads, for example, the latest beta is a lot smoother, to the point where it's hard to tell

It hasn't been all that easy to make your own touchscreen-friendly gloves short of grabbing a needle and some conductive thread. With Tony Yu's upcoming Nanotips, however, it could be as simple as applying touch-up paint. The conductive liquid gives any pair of gloves (and many other surfaces) the same capacitive effect as your own fingers, letting you use your phone no matter what style of handwear you prefer -- you can check email while you're still dressed for a motorcycle ride. If you're intrigued by the idea, you can pledge $22 Canadian ($20 US) to get a bottle of Nanotips Black, which is intended for rubber and other thicker materials. Outside of early bird specials, it costs $30 CAD (
