Kathmandu – Nepal’s new interim government under Prime Minister Sushila Karki is all set to officially begin work, as the swearing-in ceremony of her cabinet members has been scheduled for 11:30 AM today.
The Office of the President confirmed the timing just a while ago. Earlier in the morning, President’s Information Officer Archana Khadka Adhikari had said that the schedule had not been finalized yet.
According to Khila Karki, Press Coordinator to President Ram Chandra Paudel, the oath-taking program will be held in the premises of Shital Niwas, under a tent currently being set up.
Karki, who was appointed interim Prime Minister last Friday, had already announced three key ministers on Sunday:
-
Rameshwor Khanal – Finance Minister
-
Om Prakash Aryal – Home Minister (with additional responsibility of the Law Ministry)
-
Kulman Ghising – Energy Minister (also expected to oversee Physical Infrastructure, Transport, and Urban Development).
However, the appointments have not come without controversy. A faction of youth leaders aligned with Sudan Gurung’s group has expressed dissatisfaction over the ministerial selections, signaling early friction within the political landscape.
With the oath ceremony just hours away, all eyes are now on Karki’s interim cabinet and how it will navigate the challenges of governance during this transitional period.
